Over the past decade, internationally funded development projects have encountered pre-existing contamination and this has led to the Issuance of EHS Guidance for Contaminated Land, aka the “International Brownfield Guidance”. The author provides case studies entailing the application of the risk assessment and risk management protocols issued by the World Bank and the International Finance Corporation and the corresponding Equator Principles and World Bank guidelines for various types of development projects. US practitioners have the opportunity to apply their skills and knowledge in the international finance arena.
