Norman J. Hyne, Ph.D. is a certified petroleum geologist and Professor of Petroleum Geology in Continuing Education at The University of Tulsa. He is a former chairman of the Department of Geology and Geophysics where he was awarded several teaching excellence awards. His geology degrees are from Pomona College, Florida State University and the University of Southern California.
Norm has practical experience in drilling wells and producing natural gas and crude oil. He has published research in all major geological journals, authored 5 books, edited 4 books and designed 5 wall charts on petroleum.
Norm also teaches for several professional societies and many major oil companies.
He is a fellow in the Geological Society of America, an honorary member of the Tulsa Geological Society, and a member of the Society of Petroleum Engineers, American Association of Petroleum Geologists and the Society of Exploration Geophysicists. He is the instructor of the popular TU-CESE seminar, Basic Petroleum Geology for the Non-Geologist.
He recently received the AAPG Grover E. Murray Memorial Distinguished Educator Award which is given in recognition of distinguished and outstanding contributions to geological education.
