Pipelines have proven they are the safest, most economical method to move hydrocarbon products (natural gas, refined products, crude oil) from point A to point B. It is estimated we have over 560,000 miles of high-pressure transmission lines in the United States which is approximately half the transmission pipelines in the world. These pipelines are built and tested under strict design and fabrication codes. Once they are placed in service, they must operate under the PHMSA’s Pipeline Integrity Rule, meaning they must be tested/inspected routinely to prove they are safe to operate. This presentation will discuss some of the technology used to prove to these pipelines are safe to operate.
BIO:
Larry has over 50 years’ experience in Pipeline Construction, Design, Inspection, and Integrity. Participated in the design and development of the first Inline Inspection Tool, called the Kaliper Pig. I have five patents on pipeline inspection tools, cleaning tools, and hydrotesting techniques. I have traveled the world meeting with pipeline operators and making presentations on pipeline pigging and pipeline integrity. I am still active today with my company, LP Services, LLC, providing consulting services to the Oil and Gas Pipeline industry.
