At the very first IPEC conference in 1994, John Veil was invited to give an opening lecture. The subject was “Analysis of Environmental Regulatory Proposals: It’s Your Chance to Influence Policy”. The current presentation returns to that theme and reviews the three main elements of how to evaluate reports, research, and regulatory proposals. The elements include choosing appropriate data sources, making proper assumptions, and conducting suitable analyses. The current presentation provides new examples of how these play an important role in doing good research and setting good environmental policy.
