Jon Norman of United Conveyor Corporation (UCC) will present on using dry sorbent injection (DSI) as an alternative to wet scrubbing for SO2 and SO3 removal. SO2 removal levels of 95 percent, or even higher, can be achieved without using water or the creation of a wastewater stream. Also, mobile DSI systems can be used to control SO2 on a temporary basis during turnarounds or other events. These systems can even be used economically for gas processing installations for a period of 1 to 3 years. Finally, DSI has been used successfully on petroleum coke fired boilers for SO3 visible plumes and for petroleum coke calcining operations to control SO2.
