In an environment of fluctuating oil prices and constantly evolving regulations, being able to efficiently and effectively identify adequate locations for disposal and production wells is more important than ever. When choosing specific well locations, it is imperative that the operator consider numerous site-specific regulatory, geologic, and operational factors to minimize regulatory restrictions and review timeframes and increase the likelihood of receiving the most expedient approval possible. This presentation will describe a data-driven approach that operators can use to pick surface locations that will avoid environmentally sensitive locations while considering regulatory setbacks and other potential roadblocks. We will discuss specific “hot-button” regional issues across numerous states that should be identified prior to siting wells.
